Description

Title: 'Fretum Magellanian' first printed in Duisberg 1587 with Latin text on the verso.

An early map of the Straits of Magellan from the Mercator Hondius atlas. The map depicts the extremity of South America, with Patagonia, the Straight of Magellan, Terra del Fuego and the discoveries made by LeMaire.

The map is in good condition with few discernible faults: a 1 cm crease at the bottom corner and a verso taped 2cm tear outside of the plate area. There are two very small holes within the engraved area. The shadow at the centrefold is caused by flash photography.
