Description

Title: ' Hispaniae Nova Describtio, de integro Multis Inlocis, Secundum Hydrographicas, Desc. Emendata'.

This dramatic map of Spain and Portugal includes Majorca and Minorca. The map is very finely engraved by Petrus Kaerius with elaborate cartouches, sailing ships, sea monsters and compass roses. The sea is engraved in a bold moiré pattern and the map is dense with political information. French text on verso.

There are two areas of weakened paper in the bottom portion of map that have been reinforced on verso with Japanese tissue. The bottom centerfold is split about 4 inches into the map with an old repair that is sound but imperfectly joined. There is a minor abrasion in the lower border. It is still an attractive piece.
