A rare engraving of the Ukranian Black Sea port of Ochakov (Ochzakov, Ozi Kalesi) guarding the the Dnieper-Buh estuary in the gulf of Perecop. In the 7th and 6th cent. BCE there were several Greek colonies in the area, and Ochakov is on the site of the ancient Greek city of Alektor. In 1492 a Crimean khan built a fortress called Kara-Kermen there. When the Turks took control of it, they renamed it Ochakov. A rare engraving of the of the town and port of Perecop (Percop). From a book by A M Myller recounting his travels from 1725 to 1727. Myller journeyed from Rome to Jerusalem then on to Troy, Gallipoli and Constantinople. From Constantinople he travelled to Egypt and then to Syria. Finally from Syria he travelled to Malta and back to Rome. Scarce.
