Publication: Le nouveau et curieaux Atlas Geographique et Historique, ou Le Divertissement des Empereurs, Roy et Princes...., a Paris chez Chiquet, Rue S. Jacques au Grand S. Henry. A map of the Grand Duchy of Moscow divided into its various Provinces. The map shows the European part of Russia since it hadn't started its expansion eastward yet. In the bottom left hand corner is a list of its Grand Dukes although by 1719 there had been quite a few Tsars. Unusually, included with the map is an additional explanatory sheet of the engraving. Jacques Chiquet (1673 - 1721). French cartographer. He only published two work: a small atlas, called Le Nouveau et Curieux Atlas Geographique et Historique and an atlas of France called Noveau Atlas Francais. Both were published in 1719. Chiquet died shortly after publishing these atlases consequently his works are rare. According to its title, this atlas was intended for the entertainment of emperors, kings, and princes! The map is in good condition and comes with a page of text that describes the topography of the area. There is some minor browning at the top of both sheets.
