Description

Title: Londinum Londen. Engraver: Ringle. J G

A panorama of the City of London viewed from the South Bank.

Jonathan Potter writes: "An artistically licensed, vertically exaggerated prospect of London from the south that emphasizes the city’s skyline, dominated by the numerous church spires and the vast dome of St. Paul’s. Elegantly engraved the view is annotated with 52 buildings identified in the keys in both Latin and German with The Swan and The Globe among those buildings named on the Southbank. The arms of the city sit boldly at the front of the design surrounded by banners and trading wares." Drawn by Friedrich Berhard Werner (1690-1778). Engraved by Johann Georg Ringle (or Ringlin, 1691 - 1761) and published by Martin Engelbrecht (1684-1756).
