Description

Title: Das planeten system. Publication: 'Allgemeiner Hand=Atlas zum Gebrauch für die Jugend in hohern und niedern Schulen, fur Kaufleute und zeitungsleser...': Publisher Joseph Dirwaldt, Vienna 1818.

A fine engraving of an Armillary Sphere and several subsiduary diagrams showing different planetary movement theories (Egyptian, Ptolemy, Brahe, Copernicus) and diagrams showing illumination of the moon and the earth's path around the sun. The Armillary Sphere is a celestial map that depicts the Earth as the center of a series of rings, each representing a celestial marker or orbit. The Armillary Sphere was primarily used in early navigation.

Mollo was a Viennese engraver and publisher whose works rarely appear on the market. Plate 2 of the Allgemeiner Hand Atlas. Scarce.

Minute tear in the 'der horizont' ring, tear in lower border.
