Description

Title: 'Polus Arcticus cum vicinis re: gionibus'. Latin text on verso.

The classic depiction of the North Pole by Mercator, complete with the four mythical islands and the rock set at the pole, all set within elaborately engraved border with inset images of ‘Farre insule’, ‘Scetland’, and ‘Frislant Isula’. American northwest shown as ‘Califormia regio’ with note of Spanish ownership. Partial Nova Zembla and ‘Gebrokeland.

Very minor water stain at the top right margin, otherwise in very good condition.
