A plan of London with a decorative title cartouche, two large coats of arms and two tables of explanations.

This is a later edition of Braun & Hogenberg’s famous plan, published by Hatton, with the original upper cartouche and the figures in the foreground here replaced by an elaborate lower title cartouche resembling a fruit basket. This version is far less common than the earlier version.

The map is in good condition with a light overall toning and it is backed with linen that is somewhat mottled. The margin has been cut close to the borders and there is an elegant old hand written inscription in the lower border that reads 'This plan must be of earlier date than 1561. In that yeat St Paul's spire was burnt down and was never rebuilt'. A very presentable item that would frame well.
